Do you offer trial lessons?

Yes! The first lesson for a new student is a trial lesson. Students pay for that lesson alone before deciding whether to continue in that slot for regular weekly lessons. It’s an opportunity to meet the teacher, experience a lesson and make sure the arrangement feels right.

Do you teach complete beginners?

Absolutely. We welcome complete beginners as well as experienced musicians. Lessons are tailored to each student’s current ability, interests and personal goals.

Do you teach adults?

Yes! Notes Music School welcomes children, teenagers and adults. Whether you’re returning to an instrument, learning for the first time or working towards a particular goal, it is never too late to start.

What instruments do you teach?

We offer lessons in piano, guitar, singing, drums, violin, bass, saxophone, banjo, mandolin, ukulele and music theory. Availability may vary depending on our current teaching team and timetable.

How long are lessons?

Our standard lessons run for 30 minutes each week, except for band classes which are 45 minutes.

Can parents sit in during lessons?

Yes. Parents and guardians are welcome to sit in and observe their child’s lesson. Your child’s teacher may also suggest ways you can support their learning and practice between lessons.

Does the student need their own instrument?

Students generally need access to an instrument for practice between lessons. If you are not ready to purchase one, Notes has a limited selection of instruments available for hire. Please contact reception to ask what is currently available.

How do group lessons work?

Our group lessons are formed by students who would like to learn together—usually siblings, relatives or friends of a similar age and ability level. Families organise their own group rather than being placed with unfamiliar students. Groups generally include two to four students, and availability depends on finding a suitable teacher and lesson time for everyone.

Do lessons continue during school holidays?

No. Regular lessons do not run during Victorian school holidays or on public holidays. Families are only invoiced for lessons scheduled to take place during that month.

What happens if we need to miss a lesson?

Please cancel through the student portal or contact reception before 9am on the day of the lesson. Eligible cancellations receive a make-up credit. Cancellations after 9am and lessons missed without notice are forfeited and remain payable.

How do make-up lessons work?

Make-up lessons are subject to teacher availability and may be booked with the student’s regular teacher or another suitable teacher. They can be booked through the student portal or by contacting reception and expire 90 days after being issued.

What happens if the teacher is absent?

Where possible, we will arrange a suitable replacement teacher. Families may attend with the replacement or request a make-up lesson with their regular teacher, subject to availability. A credit towards future fees is available only when we cannot provide a suitable replacement teacher.

What if we are going away for several weeks?

For absences longer than two weeks, families may hold their regular lesson time for $10 per week or end enrolment and contact us again upon returning. Re-enrolment is subject to teacher and timetable availability.

Question 14

Can students prepare for music exams?

Yes. Students may choose to work towards ANZCA or AMEB examinations where appropriate. We also support students preparing for performances, auditions, VCE Music and further music study. Exams are completely optional.

How do we end enrolment?

Families may end enrolment at any time by notifying reception in writing. Students may attend any lessons already paid for, but unused lessons are not refundable for change of mind.

We are located upstairs at 21 Station Place, Werribee, above the fruit shop. If you have difficulty finding us, call reception on 0431 252 852.
